Joerg Astalosch, born on April 30, 1972, is a seasoned manager with 36 years of experience in the automotive industry. He has held various roles at Volkswagen, Audi, MAN, and Italdesign, specializing in purchasing, finance, and strategy. Astalosch is known for his expertise in turnaround situations and international projects.
Astalosch began his career in 1988 at Volkswagen AG with an apprenticeship. He studied and worked afterwards in various roles, including purchasing specialist and assistant to the CEO resp. the Chairman of the Supervisory Board. He later took over the restructuring for Audi of America and Audi Canada in a CFO role. Afterwards, he moved to Audi AG, where he served as the head of the CEO’s office and played a key role in strategic projects and organizational restructuring. He was then asked to move back to the Chairman’s office during the time of the Volkswagen and Porsche merger and the Truck unit build.
In 2012, Astalosch joined MAN Truck & Bus AG as CFO, where he was responsible for the turnaround process and took responsibility for all classical CFO functions, including IT and export control. He successfully stabilized the business, introduced a global controlling system, and addressed major problem areas, including the Indian business.
After another brief stint in the Chairman’s office for Volkswagen, he served from 2015 to 2021 as CEO and Managing Director of Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A., an engineering service provider based in Turin, Italy. During his tenure, he opened all business units to the external market, made the company a UHNW-customer vehicle manufacturer, introduced a change process towards software-focused skills, and established partnerships with companies like Airbus and Williams Advanced Engineering.
In 2020, Astalosch took on additional responsibility at Audi AG as project lead for a multi-billion euro M&A project. He led the project from initial analysis to operational business plans and headed the internal project and negotiation team. From October 2023, he took over the position of Chairman and Spokesperson of the Board of IAV GmbH, overseeing a restructuring of the company.
